Sermon transcription: turn a recorded sermon into text

Hushscript does sermon transcription from the recording. Add the audio or video of a sermon, preview up to 5 minutes, then turn the whole message into an editable transcript with timestamps and optional speaker labels. It is automated, not a human service, and Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing.

How it works

  1. 01

    Add the sermon recording

Choose the audio or video file from your sound board, phone or recording app. A video's audio is prepared in your browser first.

    Preview up to 5 minutes

Check the opening of the sermon before creating an account. The preview uses automatic language detection.

  3. 03

    Transcribe and export

Sign in, set the language and any vocabulary, then review the editable transcript and export it as text, a document, or subtitles.

Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains on your recordings, and encrypts stored transcripts at rest.

Sermon transcription starts with a recording of the message. Hushscript turns that file into text you can read, search and edit. It is a good fit for churches that already record services and want sermon notes, a handout or captions without typing the message out.

Church transcription from a recording

Add the sermon on this page and preview up to 5 minutes before creating an account. The preview shows the opening of your own recording, so you can judge the sound quality. To transcribe the whole message, sign in, choose the language and speaker options, and review the editable, timecoded result in the browser.

Automatic sermon transcription, with review

Automatic sermon transcription is fast and inexpensive, and it is not perfect. It has no human review. Plan to check Scripture quotations, names and numbers against the recording. If you publish the text, a reviewer who knows the message should read it first. Hushscript makes no claim of perfect accuracy.

Teach it your vocabulary

Sermons carry names a general speech engine may not expect: biblical names, places, hymn titles, denominational terms. Saved dictionaries and prompt presets keep that context for every recording, and one-off keyterms and a custom prompt guide a single sermon. See teach the transcriber your vocabulary for how this works.

What to do with a sermon transcript

Speakers and long services

Speaker detection separates the preacher from a reader or a question from the room, at no extra minute cost. Turn it off for one voice. A single upload can run up to 10 hours, so a full service recording works. If a service was recorded in parts, you can merge them in a chosen order into one transcript.

Privacy for church recordings

Counseling, prayer requests and member names can appear in a recording. Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains models on your recordings, and encrypts the transcript content and titles it stores. You can set auto-delete after 7, 30, 90, or 365 days. Private mode saves no transcript to your account. See private transcription.

Sermon transcription rates

The 5-minute preview needs no account, and eligible accounts get 30 free minutes once, after card verification or with a first purchase. After that, personal accounts use prepaid minutes without a subscription: packs run from $1.99 for 45 minutes to $49.99 for 6,000. On the largest pack, an hour of preaching uses about $0.50. Written translation and later Insights regeneration use additional minutes.

Why Hushscript

Names and terms you control

Saved dictionaries and prompt presets carry recurring scripture names, place names and theological terms, so you set them once for every sermon.

Long services are fine

A single upload can run up to 10 hours, so a full service recording is not a problem. You can pick up the transcript later from your account.

Automated, so you review

There is no human proofreading. Check Scripture quotations, names and numbers against the recording before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

What is sermon transcription?

It is turning a recorded sermon into written text. Churches use the transcript for sermon notes, study guides, newsletters, blog posts, and captions. Hushscript does this from an audio or video recording you already have.

Is this a sermon transcription service with human typists?

No. Hushscript is automated software with no human review. That keeps the price per minute low. If you need a verified, proofread transcript, plan time to review it yourself or use a human service.

Can AI transcribe a sermon accurately?

Automatic transcription handles clear preaching well, and accuracy drops with echo, music, a distant microphone, or overlapping voices. Scripture references and unusual names are the likeliest errors. Hushscript makes no claim of perfect accuracy, so review the text.

How do I get Bible names and church terms right?

Add them as keyterms for one recording, or save them in a dictionary or prompt preset that applies to later sermons. These guide recognition. They do not guarantee spelling, so still check them.

What file types work for church recordings?

Hushscript accepts common audio such as MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG, Opus, and FLAC, and video such as MP4 and MOV. A video file stays on your device while the browser prepares its audio, and only the prepared audio is sent for recognition.

Can it label the preacher and other speakers?

Yes. Speaker detection can separate the preacher from a reader, a worship leader, or a question from the congregation, and adds no minutes. For a single speaker you can turn it off. You can rename speakers in the editor.

Can I make subtitles from a sermon video?

Yes. Export the transcript as SRT or VTT subtitles, one of 21 export formats. Check the timing against the video before you publish.

Can I transcribe sermons in other languages?

Hushscript transcribes roughly 99 spoken languages. You can also add written translation targets, which add 25% of the recording duration per target. Translation is separate from the transcript, so review it too.

Can I use it for live services?

No. Hushscript transcribes a finished recording. It does not join a livestream or caption a service as it happens.

How much does sermon transcription cost?

The 5-minute preview needs no account. After sign-in, eligible accounts get 30 free minutes once, after card verification or with a first purchase. After that, prepaid packs run from $1.99 for 45 minutes to $49.99 for 6,000, with no subscription. Minutes are counted by audio length.

Is the recording kept private?

Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains models on your recordings, and encrypts the transcript content and titles it stores. You set how long a transcript stays, or use private mode to save none.

Do I need permission to transcribe a sermon?

Use recordings you have the right to process. Your own church's recordings are usually fine. For a message from another speaker or ministry, check their terms before you transcribe or republish it.
