Secure transcription for confidential recordings

Hushscript gives you two ways to keep a recording private. Normal mode saves an encrypted transcript under a retention rule you pick. Private mode saves no transcript to your account. In both, your video stays on your device.

Private transcription without the local AI setup

You use Hushscript in your browser: no model to download, no GPU or command line, nothing to keep updated. You choose what Hushscript keeps afterward, an encrypted transcript under a retention rule or no saved transcript at all in private mode.

Confidential transcription: what leaves your device

For a local video file, your browser prepares the audio and keeps the source video on your device. Audio files are prepared as needed; compatible audio may be sent without conversion. Only the prepared audio is uploaded for recognition, and Hushscript never uses recordings to train models.

Speech recognition is automated, and no human transcription workforce handles customer files. Audio from accounts in the EU, EEA, Switzerland, and the UK is processed in the EU.

Secure transcription software and services: how your data is protected

Uploads and downloads run over HTTPS. Hushscript removes its own transcription-audio copy after processing. It encrypts stored transcript content, titles, speaker names, translations, and Insights artifacts at rest. It holds the keys, so this is encryption at rest, not end-to-end encryption.

Hushscript holds no security certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, and it does not claim any. Security & privacy explains each step in more detail.

Private-mode transcription: no saved account transcript

Private results are available for up to 24 hours after completion, then they expire.

Choose private mode before you start and set an archive password in your browser. Hushscript stores the result encrypted for a short time, then sends it over HTTPS so your browser can create the password-protected .husharchive; no transcript is saved to your account. Private mode runs no Insights and offers no translation or medical mode.

Hushscript requests deletion after download starts, and scheduled cleanup removes expired results. Download starting does not confirm that you saved the archive, so check your file before closing the session. Hushscript never receives your archive password, so keep it somewhere safe: if you lose it, Hushscript cannot recover the archive.

Private mode or normal mode: how to choose

Normal mode is the better default. Every job adds a transcript you can search, edit, export, and run Insights on later. Private mode is for the file that should not join that library at all, such as a single sensitive call or a one-off source interview. Choose it for that job rather than as a setting for everything you upload.

Private mode changes what happens to the result, not how the recording is recognized, so those vocabulary tools work the same. The trade is real: a private result expires if you do not download and acknowledge it, and there is no copy in your account to return to. Make it on purpose.

Confidential transcription services: retention and deletion

Normal mode saves an encrypted transcript that you can search, edit, and export. Keep it until you delete it, or set automatic deletion after 7, 30, 90, or 365 days. You can give an individual transcript its own deletion date. Automatic deletion runs on a cleanup schedule rather than at the exact expiry time.

The dedicated transcript deletion flow returns a downloadable JSON receipt; scheduled and bulk deletion store a receipt without returning a download. Normal mode also offers optional Insights, while private mode skips them.

Open a private archive in your browser

A .husharchive is a password-protected bundle. You can open it in your browser to inspect and extract its contents. In normal mode, you can also export to 21 standard document, subtitle, and data formats, including TXT, SRT, VTT, DOCX, and PDF. In private mode, your browser creates the archive directly, without the normal saved-transcript export workflow.

Secure transcription for confidential documents and recordings

Private mode suits a one-off source interview or a confidential meeting when you want an archive without a saved account transcript. Normal mode suits recordings you need to edit, search, translate, or keep under a defined retention window, such as a recorded phone call, legal recording, or medical dictation.

What secure does not mean here

Recognition runs online, in both modes. Hushscript is not offline or on-device transcription, and private mode does not change that. It makes no compliance claim. If your recordings fall under specific rules, have the responsible person at your organization assess the data flow above before you upload.
