How the subtitle generator works
Hushscript automatically transcribes spoken audio, adds timings, and gives you editable text for subtitle export. For video, a compatible audio track is copied in the browser without re-encoding; local conversion runs only when required, so the source video stays on your device. Preview up to 5 minutes of transcript before creating an account. Full subtitle files come after the complete recording is transcribed in the app. This AI caption generator works from recorded speech; it does not extract an existing subtitle track or interpret text already shown in the video.
Six subtitle formats within 21 exports
Subtitle files come from the same timed transcript you edit in Hushscript. Choose the format your player or editor accepts:

These six subtitle formats are included within the 21 transcript exports. FCPXML and EDL are separate editor-timeline formats, and the password-protected .husharchive is a separate bundle rather than another export format. Captions and subtitles from spoken speech
People often use captions and subtitles interchangeably. A subtitle is timed text of the spoken words that a player shows with the video; a closed caption is text viewers can switch on or off. Full closed captions and SDH can also include non-speech information such as music or sound cues. Hushscript starts with the spoken transcript and does not automatically author those cues. Where the language supports speaker detection, labels separate voices without identifying the people; rename or reassign them in the transcript before export.
How to add subtitles to a video
To add subtitles to video, correct the transcript, review the subtitle segmentation, and export SRT, VTT, ASS, TTML, SBV, or LRC. Then import that file alongside the source video in a compatible player or editor. Hushscript creates the timed text file; it does not burn captions into the picture or provide a video styling editor. If the text changes later, edit the transcript and export the subtitle file again.
Translate subtitle text into another language
Original-language subtitles need no translation. To translate a video to English subtitles, or into any of 13 translation targets, choose the language before full transcription. Each target adds 25% of the recording’s duration to billed minutes. Review the translated transcript and export it as a subtitle file. This creates written text, not speech, voiceover, dubbing, or live captions.

Which subtitle formats can I export?

Can it label speakers in the captions?
Yes, where speaker detection is supported and enabled. Labels distinguish voices rather than identifying people. Before export, you can rename speaker display names or reassign individual transcript turns. Speaker detection is available across the supported transcription languages.

No. Hushscript creates a subtitle file that a compatible player or editor loads with the video. It does not render text into the picture, style a finished video, or edit the footage.
How long can a video be?
A recording can run up to 10 hours. There is no fixed source-file-size limit, but browser format support, device capacity, your transcription balance, and service safeguards still apply.
