When you’d want this

Say ep41-raw.wav opens with forty seconds of dead air before anyone speaks. Drag the start edge past it and download a clean take. The same goes for pulling a single quote out of a long interview, grabbing the one soundbite from a podcast episode worth sharing on its own, or cutting a lecture or meeting recording down to just the section you need instead of making someone sit through the whole thing.

Precise, two ways

The waveform shows your audio as a shape you can see, so you can drag either edge of the highlighted region to trim roughly where the sound starts and stops. For an exact cut, type the start and end seconds directly into the two fields under the waveform: they stay in sync with the region either way, so dragging updates the numbers and typing moves the region. Both fields are keyboard-accessible, so you can tab to one and use the arrow keys to nudge it by tenths of a second.

Output

Every cut is re-encoded to MP3 at 192 kbps, whatever format you started with. That keeps the download small and playable everywhere, at a bitrate high enough that the trim is the only thing you’ll notice.

Common pitfalls

This tool keeps one continuous region. It trims to a single start and end point, not multiple disconnected pieces. If you need to drop a section out of the middle and keep both the part before and after it, drop the same file in twice and cut each piece separately.

It also doesn’t auto-detect silence or speech; you’re trimming by eye against the waveform, not letting the tool find where someone starts talking. Louder stretches are usually easy to spot visually, but for a precise edit, listen back to the trimmed download before you rely on it.

Privacy

The cut runs in your browser via WebAssembly. There is no server waiting on the other end; the tab you have open does all the trimming, and no upload or account is ever part of it.

Only need the words from it?

If the reason you’re trimming is to transcribe that one part, you can skip the cut altogether: give the whole recording to Hushscript and it extracts and transcribes the audio for you, with speaker labels. The first 30 minutes cost nothing.
