Voicemail to text
Voicemail to text: transcribe a saved voicemail
Voicemail to text with Hushscript starts once you have saved the message as an audio file. Add an M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus or FLAC file, and a voicemail under 5 minutes shows its full transcript in the preview before you create an account. The preview is not carried into the app, so sign in and add the file again for the full run, with editing and export. AMR, 3GP and WMA voicemails are transcribed in the Hushscript app after sign-in. Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing and does not connect to your carrier or phone system.

How it works
- 01
Save the voicemail as a file
Use the share or export option your phone, voicemail app or carrier gives you, so the message ends up as an audio file you can pick or drag in.
- 02
Add it and read the preview
Add the file on this page. For M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC, the preview covers up to 5 minutes, so a typical voicemail comes back whole, with automatic language detection. AMR, 3GP and WMA files cannot be previewed: select Open the Hushscript app instead.
- 03
Sign in to keep the transcript
The preview is not carried into the app. Sign in and add the file again to transcribe in full, set the language, and copy or export the text. Several voicemails can be staged and started together.

Voicemail to text is a two-step job: get the message out of your phone as a file, then transcribe the file. Hushscript does the second step. It does not read your voicemail box, so you stay in control of which messages leave your phone.
Transcribe a voicemail to text
Save the voicemail as an audio file, add it on this page, and read the preview. Voicemails are short, and for M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC files the preview covers up to 5 minutes, so you normally see the whole transcript before creating an account. AMR, 3GP and WMA voicemails cannot be previewed; select Open the Hushscript app and sign in to transcribe them there. To keep a transcript, correct a name or number, and export it, sign in and add the file again, because the preview is not carried into the app. The result is editable, timecoded text.
Save a voicemail as an audio file
Where the export option lives depends on the phone, the voicemail app and the carrier. Look for a share or save control on the message, or forward the message to yourself as an attachment. Hushscript does not link to a carrier or a phone, so it cannot fetch a voicemail for you. If the message only plays through a speaker, record it with a voice recorder instead, which saves a file on your device.
Voicemail file formats
Voicemail files differ by phone and carrier. Hushscript accepts M4A, MP3, AMR, 3GP, WAV, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, and FLAC audio, so you rarely need to convert anything. The no-account preview reads M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC. AMR, 3GP and WMA files are transcribed in the app after sign-in.
Business voicemail transcription
A small business can run its saved voicemails through the same flow. Stage several files, start them together, and export the transcripts as TXT, DOCX, PDF, or spreadsheet formats. There are 21 export formats with no watermark. Hushscript is not a phone system, so there is no routing, no shared inbox and no automatic delivery. Transcripts are automated; check callback numbers against the audio before you dial.
Names, numbers and other details to check
Voicemail audio is compressed and callers do not always speak clearly. The words usually come through. Names, phone numbers, addresses and amounts are where errors cluster, so replay those parts. The editor lets you correct the text and search within it.
Other languages and accents
Hushscript transcribes roughly 99 spoken languages. For a voicemail in another language, choose the source language in the app, or let automatic detection decide in the preview. See supported languages for the list.
Privacy for voicemail
Voicemails can hold personal details. Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains models on your recordings, and encrypts the transcript content and titles it stores. You can set auto-delete after 7, 30, 90, or 365 days. Private mode saves no transcript to your account. See private transcription for the detail.
Voicemail transcription cost
The 5-minute preview needs no account, and eligible accounts get 30 free minutes once, after card verification or with a first purchase. After that, personal accounts use prepaid minutes without a subscription: packs run from $1.99 for 45 minutes to $49.99 for 6,000. Minutes are counted by audio length. For recorded conversations rather than messages, see call transcription.

Why Hushscript
Many audio formats accepted
The upload picker accepts M4A, MP3, AMR, 3GP, WAV and other common audio formats, so you do not have to convert a saved voicemail first. The no-account preview reads fewer formats: AMR, 3GP and WMA go through the app.
Not tied to a carrier
No phone number to register, no call forwarding and no voicemail setup. Hushscript works on the file after you save it.
Retention is yours
Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains on your messages, and encrypts what it stores. Set auto-delete after 7, 30, 90, or 365 days, or use private mode to save no transcript.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a voicemail to text?
Save the voicemail as an audio file, add it to Hushscript, and read the transcript. For M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC files, the preview covers the first 5 minutes with no account, which usually means the whole message. For AMR, 3GP and WMA files, sign in and use the app. To transcribe longer audio, edit the text and export it, sign in and add the file again.
How do I get a voicemail as an audio file?
It depends on your phone, voicemail app and carrier. Look for a share, save or export option on the message, or forward it to yourself as an attachment. Hushscript cannot pull voicemails from a carrier or phone for you.
Which voicemail file formats work?
Hushscript accepts M4A, MP3, AMR, 3GP, WAV, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, and FLAC audio, so you do not need to convert the file first. The no-account preview reads M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC. AMR, 3GP and WMA files are transcribed in the Hushscript app after sign-in. If a file is refused, the app tells you the format is not supported.
Can Hushscript send voicemail to text automatically?
No. It does not read your voicemail box, forward messages, or deliver transcripts by text or email. You add each saved file yourself. Many phones and carriers have their own voicemail-to-text feature, which Hushscript does not replace or change.
Can I turn a voicemail into a text message?
Hushscript produces a transcript, not a text message. Copy the text or export it, then paste it wherever you need it. You can edit the transcript first to fix names or numbers.
Is voicemail transcription free?
The 5-minute preview needs no account. After sign-in, eligible accounts get 30 free minutes once, after card verification or with a first purchase. After that, personal accounts use prepaid minutes with no subscription. Minutes are counted by the length of the audio.
How accurate is a voicemail transcript?
It is automated with no human review. Phone audio is compressed, and callers often mumble or talk fast, so names, phone numbers and addresses are the likeliest errors. Check them against the recording before you act on them.
Can it transcribe voicemails in other languages?
Yes. Hushscript transcribes roughly 99 spoken languages. The preview detects the language automatically, and in the full app you can choose the source language yourself.
Can I transcribe business voicemails for a small business?
Yes, one file at a time or several staged together. Hushscript is not a business phone system: there is no routing, no shared inbox and no connection to Grasshopper, RingCentral or similar services. You add the saved files and export the text.
Does speaker labeling matter for a voicemail?
Usually not. A voicemail has one voice, so you can turn speaker detection off. Leave it on for a message with more than one person.
Is my voicemail kept private?
Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains models on your recordings, and encrypts the transcript content and titles it stores. You choose how long a transcript stays, or use private mode to save none.
Can I transcribe a recorded phone call too?
Yes, from a saved recording. The call transcription page covers recorded phone, conference and sales calls.
