Hushscript removes its transcription audio after processing, never trains on your recordings, and encrypts stored transcripts at rest.

Archivists, field recordists, and podcasters often keep their masters in FLAC because it stores audio without lossy compression. Hushscript turns the speech in that recording into words you can search, correct, and export. It accepts the .flac file directly, so you can test and transcribe the recording you already have instead of making another format first.

FLAC transcription for lossless speech recordings

FLAC stores audio with lossless compression: decoding it reproduces the signal encoded in the file without the data discarded by a lossy format. That makes it useful for archived interviews, field recordings, lectures, oral histories, and other speech you want to keep in a lossless file.

Lossless describes how the file stores its source; it does not describe how clearly the source captured each word. Background noise, overlapping speakers, clipping, and microphone distance still affect what can be heard. Preview the FLAC itself before running the full job.

Convert FLAC to text without an intermediate copy

Choose the existing FLAC and preview up to 5 minutes before signup. If the recording contains several voices, the preview can show speaker-labeled turns in supported languages. For a solo recording, you can turn speaker detection off when you set up the full transcription.

You can guide the full job with one-off keyterms or a prompt, or reuse saved dictionaries and prompt presets for names, abbreviations, and specialist vocabulary. These provide context for the words in the recording; they do not change or repair the source audio.

Work with the transcript after FLAC transcription

Once the transcript is ready, check names, numbers, and speaker labels against the recording, then correct words, rename or reassign speakers, merge or split turns, search, find and replace, undo, redo, and revert edits. The FLAC remains the input while the transcript becomes the working document.

Export the result as a document, subtitle file, spreadsheet, structured data, or an editor timeline. Hushscript provides 21 unwatermarked formats, so the same transcript can move into writing, research, captioning, or editing workflows.

Why Hushscript

Private by design

Transcription audio is deleted after processing, recordings never train models, and only the preview clip is sent before you sign in. Hushscript encrypts the transcript it stores.

Keep the lossless source

Use the FLAC you already have instead of creating another audio copy only for transcription.

Check the speech itself

Lossless compression preserves the recorded signal, but it cannot repair clipped speech, overlapping voices, or a distant microphone. Test the recording in the preview.

Frequently asked questions

Can Hushscript convert FLAC to text directly?

Yes. Choose the .flac recording itself and Hushscript will prepare it for transcription. You do not need to convert it to MP3 or WAV first.

What is FLAC transcription?

FLAC transcription turns spoken words in a FLAC audio file into editable text. Hushscript adds speaker labels in supported languages, timestamps the transcript, and lets you correct and export the result.

Can I transcribe a FLAC file for free?

You can preview up to 5 minutes before signup. Eligible accounts get 30 free minutes once, after card verification or with a first purchase. After that it is pay-as-you-go.

How long can a FLAC recording be?

A FLAC recording can run up to 10 hours. Large media is prepared in your browser, subject to your device's capacity and service safeguards.

Does lossless FLAC guarantee a better transcript?

Not on its own. FLAC keeps the audio it was given without lossy compression, but it cannot restore speech already lost to clipping, noise, overlap, or poor microphone placement. Use the preview to check your recording.

Can FLAC transcription separate speakers?

Yes, in supported languages. Speaker detection labels each voice, which helps on multi-speaker masters such as panels and oral histories; for a solo recording you can turn it off.

Does Hushscript keep my FLAC file?

Hushscript stores the transcript, not your audio. Recordings are never used to train models, saved transcripts are encrypted at rest, and you can set auto-delete to 7, 30, 90, or 365 days.

Which languages can I use?

Hushscript transcribes roughly 99 spoken languages and detects the language automatically. You can also choose the source language when you know it.

Which transcript formats can I export?

You can export 21 unwatermarked formats, including TXT, DOCX, PDF, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV, JSON, FCPXML, and EDL.
