How to convert OGG to WAV

Add one OGG file, wait for the conversion to finish, then download the WAV. The converter decodes the OGG audio and writes it as uncompressed PCM in your browser, so the file is not uploaded.

Why convert an .ogg file to WAV

Audio editors, DAWs and some hardware prefer uncompressed WAV. Voice notes and clips exported from apps often arrive as .ogg, and a WAV copy can open where the OGG does not. This free OGG to WAV converter handles one file at a time.

What to expect from the WAV

WAV is uncompressed, so the file is larger than the OGG. It does not bring back detail that a lossy OGG already lost. The WAV is written as 24-bit PCM at the source sample rate and channel count, so it can be about 1.5 times the size of a 16-bit WAV of the same audio. Hardware or software that only takes 16-bit WAV may not accept it. Keep the original OGG if you may need it later, and test the WAV in the app where you plan to use it.

Another input or another format

To convert OGG to a compressed file, use OGG to MP3. To go the other way, use WAV to OGG. For other formats, use the audio converter.

Need a transcript instead of a WAV?

You can send your original OGG to audio transcription without converting it here first. Transcription is separate from this free local converter: it uploads prepared audio and requires an account. Speaker labels are available when selected. Eligible personal accounts can receive 30 free minutes once after successful card verification, or with their first purchase if not already granted.

Frequently asked questions

Is this OGG to WAV converter free?

Yes. Converting one OGG file to WAV in your browser is free and needs no account. Transcription is a separate service with its own account and minute pricing.

Does converting .ogg to WAV upload my file?

No. The converter processes the OGG in your browser and downloads the WAV to your device. Choosing transcription separately uploads prepared audio.

Why convert OGG to WAV?

Some editors and hardware will not import an OGG file. A WAV copy gives them plain PCM audio to open, which can avoid an import error.

Will the WAV be bigger than the OGG?

Yes. OGG is compressed and WAV is not. This converter writes 24-bit PCM, so the WAV can be about 1.5 times the size of a 16-bit WAV of the same audio. Check you have the space before converting a long recording.

Does converting OGG to WAV improve the sound?

No. A lossy OGG has already lost some detail, and the WAV cannot bring it back. What the WAV does is let you edit and save without another lossy encode.

Will every OGG file convert?

An OGG container can hold different audio codecs, most commonly Vorbis or Opus. Conversion depends on the codec and your browser or device, and playback depends on your player.

Can I transcribe the OGG instead?

Yes, through the separate Hushscript transcription service, which uploads prepared audio and requires an account. Speaker labels are available when selected.
