Start – 30 free minutes

Why is this free? It runs entirely in your browser — we don't pay for a server to process your file, so there's nothing to gate.

Record in three steps

Allow microphone access, press Start and talk, then press Stop to play it back and save it, all inside your browser.

When you’d want this

Say you need a quick voice memo before an idea slips your mind, a scratch take of a script before you read it on camera, or a short clip of yourself talking to test a microphone before a call. This page skips the file picker entirely: press Start, talk, press Stop, and you have a file — no separate recording app, no signup, no upload.

Record, then choose your format

Press Start recording and your browser asks for microphone permission the first time. Once you’re recording, the elapsed time counts up toward the ten-hour limit and a level meter moves with your voice, so you can see the microphone is actually being heard instead of finding out at playback. Press Stop whenever you’re done and the clip plays back right on the page, so you can listen before you commit to a download. Save a copy hands you the recording as-is, instantly and at any length; or convert it on the page to WAV for an uncompressed file to edit further, or MP3 for something smaller to share. Not happy with the take? Record again and the previous one is discarded.

Output

Save a copy downloads the file your browser produced, with no conversion step and no length ceiling. WAV downloads uncompressed, exactly as recorded. MP3 downloads re-encoded at 192 kbps, small enough to email or message without a second thought. Both come from the same recording, so you can grab either one, or both, without recording twice — though converting a long recording has to fit the whole output in memory, so past a point the original is the way out.

Privacy

The recording never leaves your device unless you choose to transcribe it. Capture, playback, and both downloads all happen in your browser tab using your microphone directly; there’s no server in the loop and no account required.

Only need the words from it?

If the reason you’re recording is to get a transcript, you can skip the file entirely: record straight into the Hushscript preview widget on the homepage, or transcribe the file you download here. Either way, you get a speaker-labeled transcript, and your first 30 minutes are free.

Frequently asked questions

Does my recording upload?

No. Recording happens entirely in your browser using your microphone; nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to transcribe it afterward.

Do I need to allow microphone access?

Yes. Your browser asks for microphone permission the first time you press Start recording. Nothing is recorded until you grant it, and you can revoke it again in your browser's settings at any time.

Is there a time limit?

Ten hours per recording — long enough for a full day of interviews or a conference session, and the counter on the page shows how much of it you have used. (The homepage's preview widget also has a Record tab, but caps recordings at 5 minutes there, since that one exists to give you a quick transcript preview rather than a full recording.)

What formats can I download?

Save a copy hands you the recording exactly as your browser captured it, at any length. WAV (uncompressed) and MP3 (192 kbps) are converted on the page afterward, which means holding the whole output in memory at once — so those two are offered for shorter recordings, and long ones stay available as the original file.

Can I transcribe the recording afterward?

Yes. Hand the recording to Hushscript for a speaker-labeled transcript; your first 30 minutes are free.
